Stuff

Early retirement has offered several opportunities for me one being the YMCA work out routine. Seems while I was working at the water department, there was little time, so I had convinced myself, for a consistent exercise program. Not so now! So after tipping the scales at a heart pounding 345 pounds, I dragged my ass into the YMCA. The perks, a fitness membership to the Centre that came with working for the city ran out after one year and a hefty fee for non-residents convinced me to check out membership at the Y. With Wendy employed there a little less then $20 a month gets me into all manner of fitness equipment, facilities etc, etc. I started lifting weights (12 stations take about an hour and fifteen minuets to get through) and the treadmill for 30 minutes Mondays Wednesdays & Fridays. I had planed to change this to included weight training and swimming three times a week and treadmill/cross trainer every other day. The bad news, I came down with a bad case of bowing to the porcelain gods that not only upset me it put a wrench in my exercise schedule. The good news, I have dropped 10 lbs ( I turbid this weight loss to my dedicated exercise program and not my illness) and feel stronger. Feeling much better now a days and back in the saddle again. Next posting will feature a visit to St. George Island FL. Mary, Jeff Wendy and I will be visiting Mom and Dad. I hope to show Jeff and Dad a few fishing tips while we are there. Last time I caught a five pound gull that all most snagged two twenty pound pelicans. Oh boy, I can’t wait...

State Swim Meet

Kristina, Cody, Tiffani and Echo spent last Sunday in Kenosha WI at the Illinois state swim meet. Hard to believe there are no facilities in Illinois to host a state wide swim meet. Maybe there is some other reason it is held in Wisconsin. I will have to check into it. Anyway, a couple weeks before, over a long week end, Cody, Tiffani and Echo, members of the Pelican swim team who is sponsored in part by the local YMCA, were in a district swim meet held in DeKalb IL. All three kids swam very hard and did well. They swam against other kids in their age group(s) each improving their individual best times. Tiff and Echo both received ribbons and medals. Cody was the youngest in his events and will have them all in his wake in future meets. Echo and relay team members advanced with state qualifying times in the 50 yard individual free style, 100 yard medley and 100 yard free style relays. Echo came into the meet with a seed time that put her in 20th place in the 50 yd. free style. By the end of the meet she had 11th place nailed down and had knocked a second and a half off her best time. The relay team placed 4th in the 100 yard free style and were disqualified in the 100 yard medley. I think it is safe to say all three kids like swimming. Kris described to me over the phone the smile that seamed to be permanently affixed to Echo’s face during and after the award presentations which says it all.

Check back to this posting, I hope to have pictures of the three swimmers and their medals/ribbons in the near future.

Name this Blog

I have been trying to think of a more fitting name other than "kmesh0600" for my blog with not much success. Names like Kurt's Tool Box, Kurt's Kitchen, Kurt's Pantry, Kurt's Cupboard, (there is a food theme going on here) and Kurt's Closet have come to mind. Kurt's Krap was suggested and is being given full consideration. I thought readers of this blog that know me, might like to offer a few creative suggestions. Ok ok I hear you saying, what's in it for me? If I choose or you can prove I used your suggestion I will offer free advice once a month for as long as you can stand it. Just think of me as "Dear Kurt, the Fixer". A taste of my advise... What on earth do I do about my pesky brother who keeps teasing me about flicking my hair? Signed SJHona. My advise keep on flicking and call on Mom to make him stop teasing. Thanks! Looking forward to your creative juices coming up with a fitting blog name.

Run the dogs

Every day the weather allows, sometimes twice a day, Zach, Mya and I (some days Wendy joins us) go to the local Kane County Forest Preserve for a run/walk. Zach and I do most of the walking. Mya runs and runs and then runs some more. The park extends North and South along and between Rt 31 on the west side of the Fox River in St. Charles. The park is quit popular with the local dog owners for it is a "leash free" park. We have gotten to know several dogs and their owners over the last year or so. Most every morning there is a Lady that greats every dog with treats. Mya goes nuts jumping as high as the "treat ladies" hat to get as many treats as the Lady will give her. I need to sharpen my skills in uploading videos to the blog. In future postings I hope you get a look at Mya and the treat lady at their best.

First Blog -First Post

My brother Scott, seen here on a day pass from EMHC, was of sound mind and body when he lent me his first digital camera and has sense encouraged me to start my own blog. After much self nay-saying and pre judging my knowledge and abilities as it relates to writing, spelling and general communications skills I figured what the hell, you only have one life but oh so many opportunities to explore.

While at this time I can't promise to have a new posting each day I do hope to bring to this blog something new at least once a week including videos, pictures etc. So to all my family and friends and all who stumble onto "kmesh36w", I dedicate this first posting to my brother Scott. Thanks bro, keep smiling.
