Major Richard "Dick" Winters

I followed Majors Winters story as told thought the HBO’s series Band of Brothers, and came away with a profound since of gratitude and admiration for all soldiers who fought and died in War.
As a kid not yet understanding the sacrifice of war, I enjoyed watching a lot of war movies and T.V. series which for the times did its best but I now realize fell woefully short in bring the true horror of war to the screen.
Reenacted war productions today along with interviews from the surviving solders of the 101st Airborne Division’s Easy Company, brings realism to the screen that can not be denied.
Clint Eastwood’s “The Flags of Our Fathers” and “Letters from Iwo Jima” also bring both a human and inhumane truth of war too the screen.
An article from the associated Press states, “Winters talked about his view of leadership for an August 2004 article in American History Magazine:”
“If you can” he wrote “find that peace within yourself, that peace and quiet and confidence that you can pass on to others, so that they know you are honest and you are fair and will help them no matter what, when the chips are down”

Paytons father Rudy, a.k.a. Buddy.

Success Stories from As Good as Gold -

Our family decided to find a playmate for our four year-old golden, Roxy. We contacted AGaG and were introduced to Buddy, a six year old golden who was rescued from a puppy mill in Iowa. He was used as a stud dog, kept in a cage for most of his life, sick and needed dental work. AGaG and his foster family nursed him back to health and six months after he was rescued, we brought him home and renamed him Rudy.

Rudy and Roxy are now best friends. Rudy has learned how to play with squeaky toys and run around the yard. He loves to eat as much as he can, enjoys daily walks with Roxy and cuddling. Rudy has been a terrific addition to our family, and we are lucky to have found him. Thank you, AGaG!

A first for me ...

At the end of last week, before the snow melt, we awoke to this pretty sight across from the house. It was very still out and just below freezing. I told myself that I must take my camera along on our morning run. I forgot the camera but was not disappointed at the calm beauty that was found in theforest preserve.

I did see, for the first time, a sight that had me puzzled at first. A bird with a red breast that looked familiar yet out of place for this time of year. I was about ten yards from the bird and as I squinted my eyes two, more red breasted birds joined the other and then I realized what I was seeing. Here I am with out my camera and three male Robins feeding on seeds from a bush, a site that I can never recall seeing in late December. With the frost covered, sun filled woods, a missed picture indeed.
