er-er-er-er-errrrrrrrrr......

What is it that my neighbor finds enjoyable, listening to the sound of a half dozen roosters calling out (the sound made by them is often referred to as "cocking" and is spelled “onomatopoeically” as "cock-a-doodle-do" in English) at the top of their lungs for fifteen hours a day, seven days a week?

A little over a year ago, you may recall, a posting about Mya chasing and catching my neighbors chicken. Shortly after my neighbor moved in he had built cages along the back of his house, to house several roosters. At the time I was apologizing for Mya’s murderous behavior (which turned out to be a chicken doing a great impression of a dead opossum) he told me he was building a fence and garage along with larger structure to hold the roosters and hoped that that would help quiet them down. The fence looks great and keeps all manner of vermin, manly Mya, from de-feathering any more birds. The roosters on the other hand could be used to wake the dead. From 9 or 10 at night until 3 or 4 in the morning there is peace in Elgin then they start up and the onomatopoeia starts over again.

Well the larger building to house the roosters, which is attached to the back of the new garage and open for ventilation a few feet at the top of its three walls, is about 80 - 100 feet closer to our bedroom window, is just about complete. Oh boy oh joy.

I’m torn as what to do. Register a formal complaint with the county sheriff? There is a noise ordinance that allows a county deputy to make his own decision as to weather the ordinance is being broke or not or wait to see if the new, much closer rooster digs do in fact quite them down. The difference between the old digs and new is the roosters will not have the penthouse view of the backyard. Just a view, I presume, of their fellow feathered friends across the room from them.

Have a cock-a-doodle-do of aday!!!! Wendy and I have decided that the Englih version “cock-a-doodle-do” makes it sound like a loving farm animal. Its better represented as..”er-er-er-er-errrrrrrr” @ ... where is the barbaque sauce?
