Home grown “maters”, mmm…mmm good!!

An annual event around this neck of the concrete / black top is the harvesting of the, as Echo first said, “maters”. Grandpa Kurt’s annual planting of tomatoes and with the help of Mother Nature it has turned out to be one of the better years for abundance, verity and diseased free tomatoes. We all look forward to the first maters of the season and as the pic’s show we are well into a great harvest.

Wendy starts the summer with a list of tomato recipes that she has to make before the end of the summer and what a list it is. One of my favorite (I have four or five) is a diced cucumber, red onion, gorgonzola cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette with chopped Illinois home grown maters!
